At the September 5th Chinook's Edge School Division board organizational meeting a new Chair and Vice-Chair were elected, new staff were welcomed, and Summer learning opportunities were reviewed.

Here are some of the highlights:

Board elects Chair and Vice-Chair

The Board re-elected Holly Bilton as Chair and elected Sherry Cooper as Vice-Chair. The Board also selected committee membership for the upcoming year. Trustees voted to increase their remuneration by two per cent, which matches the increase staffing groups will be receiving starting this month.

New staff are welcomed

Trustees welcomed staff who are new to Chinook’s Edge or are new in division office roles. Holly Bilton, Chair, thanked the individuals for joining the division and for the contributions they make.

Summer learning opportunities reviewed and celebrated 

The Board heard from Jason Drent, Associate Superintendent of Learning Services, about summer learning opportunities for Chinook’s Edge students.

●There were 163 students who participated in summer school in three communities - Sylvan Lake, Innisfail and Olds.

●The division offered the Jumpstart program to give high school students a head start with understanding the google environment. 174 students in Jumpstart completed at least one credit, while 123 students completed six credits and earned a Chromebook.

●88 Chinook’s Edge students participated in work experience over the summer.

The next meeting of the Board of Chinook’s Edge School Division is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 3, 2023
