The City of Lacombe held a grand opening of Lacombe new ‘Vesta Energy Ltd. Fish and Fetch Park’ which is located between 53 Avenue and 34 Street.

Although the park has been functional throughout the summer, a couple improvements have been made to the fully-fenced dog park since it first opened including the following:

  • Agility equipment
  • Solar lighting
  • Potable Water
  • Dedicated Parking
  • A small dog area

The park has also received brand new signage and a new dog sculpture called 'Ingo' who was created by Canmore artist, Cedar Mueller.

Lacombe now has two dog parks including the Len Thompson Dog Park.

“This is the primary park. The initial park that was put in is maybe not used quite as heavily but is for individuals that choose to have a little different experience. All is fair I would like to see people make use of both. This one is substantially larger and certainly a lot more time and efforts went into this area but hopefully each receive use from our pet friends and masters alike,” said Lacombe Mayor, Grant Creasey.

Vesta Energy Ltd. will be investing $17,500 per year over a seven-year term for exclusive naming rights to the Eastside Recreation Area. They will also have an option to renew the agreement before it’s conclusion.

“It’s so nice to see you come on board here and make such a wonderful community partnership and have us work together with some of the local companies like yourselves to make opportunities like this happen for all of our citizens,” said Creasey at the Grand Opening.

“With our sponsorship donation program we have two mandates. One is we invest in our local communities and the other is we invest in activities that support youth engagement and then just exercise and outdoor activity. The Fish and Fetch Park was a perfect match for this,” said Mark Lansing, Vesta’s VP HSE & Sustainability.

The mayor said he is a bit surprised at the number of visitors that the dog park has already brought in.

“There’s people coming here from Sylvan, Red Deer, Ponoka and all over which is great! I found it a little surprising,” added Creasey.

The new fishing pond has been approved by the Lacombe Fish and Game Association adjacent to the dog park which includes the following:

  • A new aerator
  • Casting docks
  • Pedestrian bridge

The pond comes stocked with trout around 8 to 10 inches in size but many often grow to be larger.

A public celebration of the park will be happening this weekend on Saturday, October 1st from 10AM to 1PM.
