On January 11th, Innisfail Town Council accepted the resignation of Councillor Glen Carritt.

The resignation came just a day after Carritt’s promotion of a local business opening despite the public health restrictions on social media. The business was listed to remain closed until further notice by the provincial government.

A statement provided by the town of Innisfail states “Councillors indicated that they too were concerned with the well-being of all Innisfail businesses, but noted that promoting a business to open in spite of government restrictions did not reflect the mandate of council.”

The release also states that it is a requirement for the town council to uphold the law established by the Parliament of Canada and the Legislature of Alberta.

“We thank Glen for his contributions to the council and the community and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Innisfail Mayor Jim Romaine.

The Council vacancy will be discussed on January 25th during the town council meeting.
