The County of Stettler has received and is reviewing a development permit application from Alberta BioBord for a Fuel Pellet Plant to be located in the NW 9-39-19-W4M (map attached).

According to the Alberta BioBord website, "Alberta BioBord has designed a project to produce straw based fuel pellets and manufacture medium density fibreboard (MDF) using wheat straw as the raw material."

Work for the plant started in September of 2020 and will include a two-phase project to deliver both straw fibre MDF and fuel pellets

The application materials received to date offer the first clear indication of how the first phase of development of the NW 9 is proposed to take place. The materials address many, but not all, of the planning issues related to this scale and type of development.

Alberta BioBord has been requested to submit additional materials to complete their application by or before February 28, 2022. The requested materials include a summary and outcomes of a public consultation process based on the plans and materials that have been and will be submitted to the County.

All materials submitted as part of the development permit application will be made available through the public consultation. Alberta BioBord is expected to undertake the public consultation with County representatives participating as observers.
