As spring quickly approaches, many municipalities are closing the outdoor skating surfaces for the season.

Here are the closed ice surfaces as of March 11.

Lacombe

The City of Lacombe has closed all outdoor skating surfaces for the season.

Sylvan Lake

The Town of Sylvan Lake has closed all outdoor rinks, including neighbourhood rinks, lake rinks, the lake rink parking lot, and the lake access gates on Lakeshore Drive.

The town said the recent warm temperatures can mean unsafe ice.

Ponoka

The Town of Ponoka has closed the skating trail at Lions Centennial Park for the season.

The ice is no longer suitable for users and will no longer be maintained for the season.

The Outdoor Rink (ODR) at the Ponoka Arena Complex has also closed for the season.

Blackfalds

All outdoor rinks in the Town of Blackfalds are closed for the season.

Red Deer

With recent warm temperatures the outdoor rinks, Bower Ponds skating pond, and the Ice Oval at Great Chief Park are now all closed for the season.

Parks and Public Works staff are working to remove nets and turn off the lights.
