On June 10, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Drumheller RCMP responded to the Drumheller Correctional Institution to assist Correctional Officers who had apprehended two suspects whom were introducing illicit drugs into the penitentiary.

The investigation found that the suspects had tossed packages of contraband over the security fence. The packages were recovered and examined and it was determined they contained suspected cocaine and methamphetamine.  A black Volkswagen Golf car was also located nearby and seized along with other evidence as part of the investigation.

RCMP arrested and jointly charged 25-year-old Pancho Teichroeb, and 22-year-old Nolin Berehula, both residents of Taber, Alta., with:

  • Trafficking the Controlled Substance of Methamphetamine;
  • Trafficking the Controlled Substance of Cocaine;
  • Mischief to the Drumheller Penitentiary.

Both Teicroeb and Berehula were subject to Judicial Interim Release Hearings and both released on $3,500 Promise to Pay Release Orders with conditions.  Both are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on July 12, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Staff Sergeant Robert HARMS of Drumheller RCMP stated “This occurrence and successful apprehension is another example of the excellent partnership and investigational techniques that the Correctional Service Canada and the RCMP share.”
