Friday morning ( Oct. 20, 2023), at 9:32 a.m., Blackfalds RCMP received reports of a two vehicle collision on the QE II just south of McKenzie road near Red Deer.
Despite efforts from emergency crews, two people identified as a 93-year-old male Sundre resident and a 78-year-old male Rocky Mountain House resident died on scene. A third vehicle occupant, a 70-year-old female resident of Sundre was taken to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.
RCMP remained on scene for several hours while the Collision Analyst conducted their investigation.
Though still early in the investigation, preliminary findings suggests that one of the vehicles was pulled over on the side of the road and, when trying to reintegrate the travelling lane, collided with a vehicle heading in the same direction.
