Youth interested in trying pickleball are invited to the Lacombe Pickleball Club’s try-it event for junior players.

Through Pickleball Alberta, the Lacombe Pickleball Club was selected as one of the Junior Hot Shots Try-It Event locations.

On June 30 at 6:30 p.m., young people between six and 17 years of age can try pickleball for free at the Lacombe Curling Club.

Mary Ann Kolkman explained that youth can expect an introduction to pickleball, with a couple of levels of coaching available.

“It’s very basic training but also improving skills for kids who have played before and it's a pretty wide age range we're looking at,” Kolkman said. “It’s a really good opportunity to improve their pickleball game.”

Pickleball is a sport youth could play for a lifetime.

“It's a great multi-generational sport. It's something they could play with their grandparents, their parents, their peers and it's a lot of fun,” Kolkman said. “It's really a fun sport to get into.”

Pickleball paddles will be available to borrow during the try-it event, or youth who have access to a paddle are encouraged to bring it along with them.

There are 24 spots available for youth to participate. Youth are asked to register in advance.
