On Sept. 29, 2023, Maskwacis RCMP responded to an aggravated assault on Ermineskin First Nations.
The victim, a 52-year-old male resident of Maskwacis, was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Major Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation, in partnership with Maskwacis RCMP General Investigation Section, Maskwacis RCMP, Red Deer Forensic Identification Unit and the Edmonton Medical Examiners office.
As a result of the investigation, Matyrus Minde (25), a resident of Wetaskiwin, was charged with second degree murder.
Minde was brought before a Justice of the Peace where he was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is on Oct. 10, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
