The Central Alberta Buccaneers of the Alberta Football League (AFL) will kick off their 2024 season this Saturday against the Calgary Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack are their oldest rival and will be looking for revenge after losing to the Bucs last season. Josh Thomas the media coordinator and receiver for the Buccaneers says they are very excited for the new season and a return to Lacombe.

"We love it. I mean, Setter's place is great in Red Deer, but Lacombe is our home. We love having our practices (in Lacombe) and having the ability to draw guys from the entire Central Alberta region because of that.  We just kind of get to take it a step further this year and put on a good show. "

A new edition to the team this year will be Defensive End Graham Hagstrom. He was playing for the Edmonton Elite in 2023 and is looking forward to having a great year this season for the Bucs.

Thomas says it will be a bit of a different looking team this year. "It's going to be a little bit of a different look than the Bucs are used to. We have a lot of young guys  and are hoping to field a  really competitive, but definitely a young lineup."

Game time is 6:00 pm at M.E. Global Athletic park.
