The Central Alberta U15 Girls International Selects soccer team is planning to play in a tournament in Portugal in the Summer of 2025. To do so, they have been doing a lot of fundraising for their trip.

Troy Burnham, who is on the fundraising committee, talks about this special team. "They've drawn athletes from Stettler, Red Deer, Lacombe, Camrose, and primarily Ponoka. It is tier-two level soccer so they are competing at a very high level. Probably this the first time in Lacombe that we've had athletes playing at tier-two. Usually these teams at this level are confined to Edmonton and Calgary"

Burnham also talked about the team's schedule. "We play in tournaments in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer. The team itself is very competitive and even spent the Winter season (indoor season) competing in Edmonton. They placed quite well at Provincials, considering it was their first year at Tier-2."
