October is DEAM month, which stands for Disability Employment Awareness Month.

For Employment Placement and Support Services (EPSS) , it is a very busy and meaningful month. Chris Upsdell, the Program Coordinator for EPSS explains who they are and what they do.

"We are located in Red deer, but we have programs that cover all of Central Alberta. We provide support to people looking for work and programs that help employers find employees. We also run a family Resource Center for families that have children with disabilities or families that manage people with developmental disabilities programming themselves."

Upsdell also talks about the importance of Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM).

"DEAM is an initiative to educate the public and and potential employers who maybe haven't considered that they'd be able to hire. Somebody with a disability.  And so just understanding that there are a lot of resources out there, we provide things like wage subsidies and give somebody a chance that maybe they hadn't considered in the past. We are a non-profit so employers are worried that we take a cut of the person's pay. We don't do anything like that. We just get paid to connect people."
