Local municipalities gear up for holiday celebrations

It’s November which means the holiday season isn’t as far away as you might think. Many local municipalities throughout the central Alberta area will be hosting local festivals and events to help spread holiday cheer.

Here’s a look at when those festivals will be happening this year:

Ponoka’s Santa Claus Parade and Almost Midnight Madness

Date: Friday, November 17, 2023

Time: 5:30PM

The parade will make its way downtown Ponoka starting at 5:30PM. The parade will begin at the Ponoka Arena Complex. Santa Claus and Ponoka Town Councillors will make a stop at the Christmas tree located beside the old library building at 48th Avenue and 51st Street for a tree lighting ceremony.

Local businesses will be open late and a fireworks display will be happening at 8PM over the Battle River Valley.

Light Up Lacombe

Date: November 23-26, 2023

Light Up Lacombe kicks off on Thursday, November 23rd with the Echo Energy Santa Claus Parade at 6:00PM and Late Night Shopping.

Red Deer Lights the Night

Date: Begins November 16, 2023

Residents are invited to visit City Hall Park any time after November 16 to enjoy a beautiful display of colourful lights and festive decorations. Lights are turned on every day from sunset to sunrise until mid-January.

Other activities include:

North Pole Patio Party – November 17 from 4-7 p.m. at Ross Street Patio
Writes of Winter writing contest – through January 15, hosted by Red Deer Arts Council
Winter Market – November 24 and 25 at Millennium Centre
Rare & Remarkable Artisan Market – November 25 at Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery
Capstone Winter Nights Festival – December 1, 2 and 3 at Canada 150 Square
Downtown Twinkle Tour – December 15 throughout downtown
Santa’s Bus Tour – December 8, 9, 15 and 16 starting at 5:30 p.m.
