Maskwacis RCMP are stepping up proactive patrols after seeing an increase in gun related crime.

On June 10, 2024, Maskwacis RCMP responded to reports of gun shots being fired at a residence in Maskwacis. On June 11, 2024, RCMP received a similar call of shots fired at a residence in Maskwacis. There were no injuries reported from these two incidents.

As a result of these ongoing investigations, RCMP initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in Wetaskiwin. A search revealed a loaded 9 mm hand gun and a sawed-off rifle.

Alyssa Soosay (29), and Trey Curiez Littlechild (24) have been arrested and charged with recklessly discharging a firearm. They both were taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. RCMP have also issued an arrest warrant for a third suspect Dorian O’Shea Hunter (23).

With these and other recent reports of offences involving firearms, Maskwacis RCMP are stepping up proactive patrols in the community. These patrols and other targeted police activities will increase visibility in the community as well as focus on repeat offenders who are of the greatest risk.

RCMP are also in discussion with Chiefs and Band Counsels with each nation as they jointly work to improve safety in the nations. 

“The public will see more visible proactive patrols in the community and increased safety while we continue to investigate the recent crimes,” says Staff Sergeant Richard McKay, “While we do everything in our power to support the community we are asking residents for help. Please report any information as it relates to the whereabouts of illegal firearms and who is in possession of them.”
