Site preparation for a new expanded, multi-use skate park in the Town of Ponoka is set to start this week.

Full construction of the skate park is scheduled to begin later in the year and will be designed for multi-use equipment such as skateboards, bicycles, inline skates, and scooters.

The existing Hamilton Skate Park will be extended to include space occupied by the former Town of Ponoka recycling yard.

“This new, expanded facility will be an accessible and attractive space that can be enjoyed by all ability levels and ages,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson. “And the redevelopment of the former recycling yard will greatly improve that area of the downtown corridor."

After public consultation over the last two years on the design of the expanded skate park, the facility will include:

  • A 38-metre-long snake run
  • Vert and pyramid ramps
  • Landscaped gathering and seating areas
  • Lighting

The Hamilton Skate Park will remain open through most of the construction but will close briefly later in the summer while enhancements are made to the section of the facility tied into the park extension.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to use caution around the construction zone.
