Red Deer Public staff learned about how data can play an important role in the decisions made at both the school, leadership team and Board levels. On April 26, about 50 staff members gathered to learn about data-informed decision making in the Aspiring Leaders program, which is hosted by the Division’s Human Resources Department.
“It was great to see staff want to learn about the cycle of Division decision making and planning and how Red Deer Public’s Board of Trustees and Leadership Team makes data-driven decisions using local engagement, Alberta Education Assurance Survey Results, student achievement data and other local measures to drive priorities and goals in our Division Education Plan,” said Associate Superintendent, Human Resources Corrine Thorsteinson. “It’s important to align practices, procedures, policies, decisions and resources with school and Division vision, goals and priorities.”
A panel including Associate Superintendent of Technology and Information Services, Ron Eberts, Principal at École Oriole Park Elementary, Lori Irvine, and Principal at Hunting Hills High School, Darwin Roscoe gave examples of how data-driven decisions have been made at the Division level, as well as in schools.
Attendees then engaged in table top discussions surrounding a number of topics regarding how data can inform planning and priorities, as well as how they see their role or work reflected in the Division’s plans.
The last session of the 2022/2023 school year will take place at Pines Alternative School next month. This includes a Leadership & Learning Symposium with Interactive Keynote Speaker and Leadership Coach Ila Edgar.

We look forward to some practical tools on building and maintaining trust in leadership through her interactive keynote presentation, ” said Corrine. “These sessions are a perfect opportunity for any Red Deer Public employee who wants to explore whether a formal leadership position is right for them; wants to build or enhance their leadership toolkit; wants to lead where they are at; or wants an opportunity to learn from and engage with other colleagues interested in leadership.”
