Some local athletes from Lacombe and Stettler are competing this weekend in the U18 and U16 National Youth Track & Field Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Two of the athletes are from the Lacombe area; Eiley Morrison and Kylie Sargent. Both will be competing tomorrow (Friday, August 11th)  in the heats and then hoping to qualify for the finals later in the day. Eiley and Kylie are representing the Alberta Speed School Track Club from Red Deer.

In order to qualify for the Nationals, they had to participate in different competitions in Alberta throughout the Summer. Kylie qualified at a competition in Edmonton on June 2nd, and Eiley qualified at a competition in Calgary on May 13th.

Eiley Morrison is competing in the 100m, and with a lot of hard work has moved from being ranked at 19th in the province to 8th.

Kylie Sargent is competing in the 100m hurdles, and has moved from ranking 21st in Alberta to 8th.

In the U16 championships, another local athlete to watch out for is Clair Holliday. She will be competing in the 100 m and long jump events. Clair is from Stettler.
