On May 9, at approximately, 5 a.m., the Ponoka RCMP received a report of a vehicle stolen at gunpoint from outside a residence on 55 Street in Ponoka.

Information about the offence and vehicle was passed onto neighbouring detachments and partner agencies.

At 1:07 p.m., Maskwacis RCMP received a report of the vehicle being sighted in Maskwacis.

RCMP located the vehicle in the Samson town sight and began to observe the vehicle with an unmarked police car.

Once outside of the townsite, police attempted to stop the vehicle. A short pursuit ensued with police observing the occupant tossing items out the window, including a loaded SKS rifle.

The vehicle became disabled on Township Road 432 and Range Road 241 and all four occupants were arrested.

Donovan Rain (32), a resident of Samson First Nation, has been charged with:

  • Weapons offences (x4)
  • Dangerous driving
  • Fail to comply with a release order (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000
  • Obstruct peace officer

Rain was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody with his next court date set for May 14,  at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

Matthew Moonias (22), a resident of Louise Bull First Nation, has been charged with:

  • Weapons offences (x5)
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Jasmine Soosay (24), a resident of Maskwacis, was charged:

  • Weapon offences (x3) 

She was released on conditions to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on May 23.

Ashantay Moonias (21), a resident of Maskwacis, was charged with:

  • Weapon offences (x3)

She was released on conditions to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on June 4.
