If you are looking for something to do for the whole family on Heritage Day check out the special event at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery (MAG).

The event runs on August 7th, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Explore the Body Language: Reawakening Cultural Tattooing of the Northwest art exhibit and discover the cultural symbolism of tattoos and design in the traditions of the Haida people.

Create your own 'Tree of Life’ art project and add to our ‘Art Rocks’ in the garden installation. Plan to watch a Henna Tattoo demonstration by a local artist who will also be creating Henna designs for folks to have, for a small donation. Learn about and compete in old-fashioned games like burlap sack races, three-legged races, and mini tours of the log schoolhouse. Light refreshments will be served, and an ice cream truck will make its appearance in the heat of the afternoon.

“We aim to create activities for all ages with a focus on heritage and art,” says Lynn LeCorre, Education Coordinator.

This event is free and open to the public. We encourage visitors of all backgrounds to join us for an afternoon celebrating and creating our shared heritage. Whether you are an art enthusiast, history buff, or simply looking for an enjoyable family outing, Heritage Day at the Red Deer MAG promises something special for everyone.

Old-fashioned games, henna tattoo demos, heritage square tours, art activities & more!
