A Red Deer Resident has been charged with first degree murder.

On Nov. 8, 2023, Valleyview RCMP responded to a report of a male who had been assaulted and was suffering from serious lacerations to his body at a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Alta. He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiners Office determined that the victim, 36-year-old Aaron Bellcourt, had died as a result of his injuries and the death was deemed a homicide.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) took over the investigation and conducted a lengthy investigation. MCU, with the assistance from the Valleyview RCMP Detachment, Grand Prairie RCMP Municipal Detachment, Grand Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), Western Alberta District GIS as well as Alberta RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Interview Assistance Team, conducted the arrest of 3 suspects on May 24, 2024.

As a result of the investigation, Sara Dawn Aleisha Kappo (35), a resident of Red Deer, Teyenna Angel Rae Kappo (30) and Dallas Goodswimmer (23), both residents of Valleyview, were charged with first degree murder. They were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on June 24, 2024.

“Murder investigations will always be of the utmost importance to the Alberta RCMP, as they are even more important to the family and friends affected” said Cpl. Cale Marriott of the Alberta RCMP MCU. “The conclusion of this file, only possible thanks to the work of multiple detachments, sections and teams from your Alberta RCMP, not only underlines this fact but shows the work, dedication and teamwork that goes into everything we do.”
