Daxon Rudolph, from Lacombe will play for Team Canada at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic games which will take place from January 19th to February 1st in Gangwon Province, South Korea.

Rudolph will be joined by two other Alberta hockey players: Keaton Verhoeff from Fort Saskatchewan, and Carter Esler from Okotoks.

The Lacombe athlete is now playing for the Northern Alberta Xtreme, and was the first overall selection in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, taken by the Prince Albert Raiders.

Men’s hockey will take place January  27 – 31 (Days 8 – 12) at the Gangneung Hockey Centre. Team Canada opens the Youth Olympic tournament against host South Korea on January 27 at 6 a.m. ET / 3 a.m. PT, and will play Finland on January 29 at 6 a.m. ET / 3 a.m. PT. Semifinal matches will be played on January 30, and medal finals on January 31.

17-year-old, Bastian van Wouw from Red Deer will be competing in Luge. Van Wouw started his career in 2018, and is a former hockey goalie.

Luge will run from January 20-23 at the Alpensia Sliding Centre.

This will be the fourth Winter Youth Olympics. The Canadian team will have 78 athletes (48 men and 30 women) competing in 12 sports.
