An air quality statement is in effect for the central Alberta area including in areas such as Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer, Innisfail and Stettler.

Smoke caused by wildfires can fluctuate and vary from hour to hour and is anticipated to move out of the area by the weekend.

Environment Canada reminds people to take breaks from the smoke by temporarily relocating indoors and away from the smoke. Smoke can cause adverse health effects for people with lung disease, heart conditions, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors.

You can keep indoor air clean by closing doors and windows and using an air purifier with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter.
