Communities across Central Alberta are celebrating Seniors’ Week with a variety of activities and special events.

Seniors’ Week is celebrated across Canada from June 3 until June 9.

"Seniors’ Week is a collaboration of many organizations within our community, and we offer a wide variety of events to celebrate our seniors as well give them the opportunity to try out existing programs, and hopefully meet a few new people,” said Carlene Wagner, Lacombe and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Seniors Service Coordinator.

Wagner added that there are many events, and activities for older adults in the community to enjoy throughout the week, including an afternoon at the movies, a BBQ, water fitness classes, and pickleball.

New to Seniors Week this year, the Ellis Bird Farm is offering a tea and a walking tour.

Some events offered require registration, but most are drop-in, with busing options available.

Wagner explained that Seniors’ Week is an important event for the community, as it’s a way for seniors to connect.

“It helps connect a lot of our older adults as well as give them the opportunity to connect throughout the year, it shows them what resources we have out there, and it's great for our community as far as collaborating with different organizations,” she said.
