On March 3, at 5 p.m., the Fort Chipewyan RCMP were conducting proactive patrols within the community of Fort Chipewyan when they observed a male operating an ATV in a carless manner on Delta Road.  

With the assistance of Wood Buffalo RCMP, Fort Chipewyan RCMP stopped the male, who was subsequently arrested.  

Upon search of the male, police located a loaded 9mm pistol and hollow point ammunition. 

As a result of the investigation, RCMP have charged 19-year-old Red Deer resident Keanu Redbear with:  

  • Unsafe storage of firearms 

  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose 

  • Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized 

  • Possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle 

  • Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration 

  • Assault on Police Officer with Weapon/Causing Bodily Harm 

  • Resists/obstruct peace officer 

  • Driving carelessly and driving an uninsured motor vehicle on a highway under the Traffic Safety Act

Redbear was taken before a justice of the peace and released from custody with the next court date set for March 7, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Chipewyan.
