The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has charged an RCMP officer with two counts of assault from Nov. 14, 2020.

The assault occurred during the arrest of individuals by officers, after a vehicle fled police on a road outside of Lacombe.

Evidence gathered during ASIRT’s investigation indicated two of the occupants had been assaulted during the arrest.

The investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) to determine whether the evidence met the standard for prosecution.

Following a review of the investigation, ACPS advised that the evidence met the standard for prosecution.

ASIRT Executive Director Michael Ewenson determined that the officer involved should be charged.

On Feb. 22, Const. Raymond Wallace was charged with two counts of assault under Sec. 266 of the Criminal Code.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Red Deer Court of Justice on March 28.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently, and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
