Red Deer Public School Division’s Reading College has received a massive boost from the school division’s Smile Cookie Campaign in partnership with Tim Hortons. Over the week-long campaign $60,735 was fundraised and will be going towards helping students learn to read.

The Reading College is held every July providing the students with reading gaps an opportunity to develop their reading skills as well as motivate them, and improve their interest in reading. This last July, the program saw over 600 students participate.

“The Smile Cookie Campaign is a great opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of literacy, it really does create life chances for students. Reading College is made possible through great support from our community and Tim Hortons - we could not operate it without this support,” said Kristine Plastow, Foundation Board Chair. “We are so grateful to the community for buying Smile Cookies and supporting this fantastic program.”

The Reading College just wrapped up it’s 12th year of operations.
