The Penhold Volunteer Fire Department recognized the Officer and Firefighter of the Year during the Feb. 12 council meeting.

The awards are voted on by peers, with the officers voting for the Firefighter of the Year, and firefighters voting for the Officer of the Year.

This year, two officers tied, and it was decided they would both receive the award.

Captain Warren Kitteringham received the award as he is known as a leader in the department, assists in organizing and executing the weekly training plans, attends many calls throughout the year, and was deployed to many of the wildland fires last year.

Lieutenant Brittany Evans also won the award, as she leads the department's Cadet program, and works to provide safe and informative programming for local high school students.

Ryan Clarke was named the Firefighter of the Year, as he assisted with the Cadet program, responded to many calls, and was deployed to many wildland fire calls.
