Senior's Week is being celebrated across Canada from June 3rd to 9th. There are many events and activities planned for seniors across Central Alberta.

One of these events is the Ponoka Piston Poppers annual cruise. Doug Hart a member of the group talks about the special vehicle event.

"The Ponoka Piston Poppers recognize seniors week and for six years, we've been parading old cars, trucks, antiques, classics, muscle cars around the seniors facilities in Ponoka. The residents really enjoy seeing those old cars they used to drive when they were teenagers. And so we've been doing it and it's been getting bigger every year. We visit about 8 facilities in the town of Ponoka. We end up at the Ponoka Seniors Drop In Centre. We parade through the parking lots of all these centers, residential areas, and the downtown."

The Ponoka Piston Poppers has drivers from all across Central Alberta including Mirror, Bashaw, Millet, Lacombe, Three Hills and many other places as well. Hart says they get a great reaction from the seniors.

"Well, they're pretty excited because it reminds them of their youth. They love to see us rev our engines and honk our horns and they clap and they're very excited."

Hart has his own very special ride, a 1969 Chevelle. "I've had it for 52 years. I bought it second hand in 1972. It was my daily driver till 1985 and I put it away knowing that one day when my kids finished university I'd spend their inheritance to restore it.  I did that in 2008, 2009, and I've been proudly driving it ever since."
