The Ponoka Jubilee Library will be hosting their second annual Costume Fun Run on Saturday, October 21st. Not only will participants get the chance to wear their favourite costumes, but all of the proceeds will be supporting the community food pantry.

Last summer, the community food pantry was started to fill a need in the community. Anyone is welcome to check out what is inside the pantry and take what they need without needing to fill out any forms or provide information.

Program Coordinator at Ponoka Jubilee Library, Tiffany Toma says the library’s food pantry is very accessible and used often.

“We're open six days a week which is already a bigger access point than what our local food bank is which just in in means that people can be coming in and out of the building. They might not even be accessing the library. They might be going to pay a town bill and they can walk by and they can see this, and it's there, and it's accessible, and it's immediate,” said Toma.

The top fundraiser for the first Costume Fun Run fundraised over $250 for the pantry and the library is looking forward to hosting another successful run.

“[Last year] we raised a substantial amount of money and food because we counted the value of food plus cash donation,” said Toma.

The length of the run is only one kilometer and the participants are welcome to run, jog, walk or roll. Last year, some kids put a creative spin in their donations by coming up with meal plans for their donations.

“We really love October and Halloween here... It's an excuse for people to dress up to wear their Halloween costumes more than one night a year and it gets the community involved,” added Toma.

Registration for the Fun Run is $20 or 20 food item donations. All of the proceeds will be going towards the community food pantry. The run will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 1:00PM.
