Early in the new year, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) laid charges following an investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle. 

On Jan. 2, CRT were conducting patrols when officers located two individuals in a vehicle that had been stolen out of Red Deer the day prior. Officers arrested both suspects. 

Jesse Bissonette, a 39-year-old resident of Blackfalds, was arrested and charged with the following offences: 

  

  • Possession of ammunition contrary to an order 

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 

  • Dangerous driving 

  • Flight from police 

  • Prohibited driving 

  • Possession of break-in tools 

  • Breach of release order 

  • Drive without insurance 

  • Display improper licence plate 

  

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Bissonette was remanded into custody.  

He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on March 5, 2024. 

 

Sarah Thayer, a 33-year-old resident of Sylvan Lake, was arrested and charged with the following offences: 

  

  • Possession of ammunition contrary to an order (2 counts) 

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 

  • Unauthorized possession of identity documents 

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles) 

  

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Thayer was released by a Justice for the court. 

She is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on March 7, 2024.
