UPDATE#2

Red Deer RCMP would like to inform the public that the request to avoid the area and remain indoors has been lifted. Red Deer RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation. Though the matter is still under investigation, there is no longer a concern for public safety.

An addition release is anticipated once more information becomes available.

UPDATE#1:
RCMP are identifying a suspect related to the firearms complaint currently being investigated on 59 avenue. RCMP are looking for 32-year-old Christopher Lee Furgason. RCMP do believe that this incident was targeted. All area schools have been let out for the day. 

Furgason is described as:

  • Medium complexion
  • 6 foot 2 inches tall
  • 159 pounds
  • Long wavy black hair
  • Last seen wearing a blue jacket beige ankle height pants. He has many tattoos on his arms and hands. 

Although RCMP do not believe that Furgason still possess the firearm he should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen do not approach call 911immediately.

Red Deer RCMP are currently on scene investigating a firearms complaint in the area of 59 Avenue between 60 Street and 60a street in the city of Red Deer.

RCMP are currently looking for an armed suspect in the area of Riverside Meadows.

They are asking area residents to avoid the area, remain indoors and secure your residence. Koinoia Christian School has been placed into a lock down status as a precaution due to its proximity to the initial complaint.

We ask that photos of responding officers not be placed on social media until after the incident is over.

Additional information including a suspect description will be provided when available.
