On Sept. 6, 2023, Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) was conducting covert surveillance when they observed a stolen vehicle being driven in Red Deer. RCMP members followed the vehicle to a local business, where the driver was arrested. The vehicle was confirmed as stolen out of Blackfalds on Aug. 29, 2023.
A 51-year-old resident of Red Deer, Jason Lafferty, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code and Provincial offences:
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Obstruction of a police officer
- Driving without insurance
- Driving without vehicle registration
- Driving without a driver’s licence
- Displaying an unauthorized licence plate
During the investigation, police encountered a 21-year-old Red Deer resident, Latisha Dunlop-Perrault. Dunlop-Perrault was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Oyen and Red Deer.
Dunlop-Perrault was held for a Judicial interim Release Hearing and was released to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Hanna on Sept. 27, 2023, and The Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Sept. 28, 2023.
