On May 28, 2024 Rocky Mountain House RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP Southern Alberta Emergency Response Team arrested Elijah Strawberry who was wanted on warrants, at a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation. A Search Warrant was subsequently executed at the residence during which a search yielded the following:

  • An unsecured sawed-off rifle;
  • Numerous unsecured rounds of ammunition;
  • Approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine.

As a result,  22-year-old Elijah Strawberry, a resident of O’Chiese First Nation, has been charged with:

  • Careless use of a firearm;
  • Possession of a firearm while unauthorized;
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized;
  • Possession of unloaded prohibited firearm together with readily accessible ammunition;
  • Alter, deface or remove the serial number on a firearm;
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order (X2);
  • Uttering threats;
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • Carrying a concealed weapon;
  • Breach of Probation;
  • Possession of controlled substance.

Strawberry was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for May 30, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice  in Red Deer.
