On May 28, 2024 Rocky Mountain House RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP Southern Alberta Emergency Response Team arrested Elijah Strawberry who was wanted on warrants, at a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation. A Search Warrant was subsequently executed at the residence during which a search yielded the following:
- An unsecured sawed-off rifle;
- Numerous unsecured rounds of ammunition;
- Approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine.
As a result, 22-year-old Elijah Strawberry, a resident of O’Chiese First Nation, has been charged with:
- Careless use of a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm while unauthorized;
- Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized;
- Possession of unloaded prohibited firearm together with readily accessible ammunition;
- Alter, deface or remove the serial number on a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm contrary to order (X2);
- Uttering threats;
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose;
- Carrying a concealed weapon;
- Breach of Probation;
- Possession of controlled substance.
Strawberry was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for May 30, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
