Nominations are closing soon for the Citizen of the Year awards in Sylvan Lake. 

The award is given to individuals who live or have lived in Sylvan Lake and have made significant contributions to the community that have improved the quality of life for others. 

The award recognizes individuals who have contributed to the arts, shown commitment in maintaining, protecting, and improving the environment, long-time volunteers, athletes, and youth who help the community, show strong character, and demonstrate awareness for social change. 

Citizens can be nominated in categories including:  

  • Citizenship 

  • Music, Art, Culture, and Heritage  

  • Environmental Stewardship 

  • Sports Excellence  

  • Youth Award of Excellence 

  • Long Time Service Volunteer 

  • Mayor's Distinguished Award 

Nominations will be accepted until Feb. 2 at noon, and should include a history of the nominee, years of service to the community, their contribution, and special achievements and awards.
