For drivers in Ponoka, temporary lane closures are (Tuesday, September 5) and continuing throughout the week (weather permitting). Crews will be completing micro-surfacing work as part of the Town of Ponoka’s annual Pavement and Concrete Improvement Programs on the following roadways:

• 50 Street (between 53 Avenue and 56 Avenue);

• 51 Street (between Highway 2A and 53 Avenue); and

• 57 Avenue (between 50 Street and 54 Street).

Micro-surfacing is an application where a special coating is added to the top layer of asphalt, which preserves the underlying pavement by preventing oxidization and moisture penetration.

This process is a cost-effective treatment that prolongs the life of the road by slowing down ongoing deterioration. This helps the Town of Ponoka keep roadways in good condition and maximize the pavement lifecycle.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution in construction zones and observe road signs and traffic safety personnel.
