Two Red Deer residents have been named the RDP Athletes of the Week.

Congratulations to Janai Hubert a third-year Bachelor of Kinesiology student.

For the first time in program history, the Queens have started the season with a perfect 10-0 record. In those 10 games, RDP was able to defeat the SAIT Trojans in back-to-back games in the opening week of Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Basketball action. In the last week of action in the Fall Term, the Queens were able to defeat the Olds College Broncos by 60-plus points in back-to-back games to extend their winning streak in the 2023/2024 season to ten games. Hubert was a huge factor in these blowout wins over their central Alberta rivals. Since she put on the Queens jersey three years ago, Hubert was not someone who would blow the crowd away with her offensive abilities but rather her defensive abilities. However, in the past three of four games, she combined for a total of 50 points to increase her average to just over 10 points per game on the season while also averaging 8.2 rebounds per game

The second winner this week is Joel White. Joel is also from Red Deer and is a first-year Business Diploma student.

Lead Joel White had quite an impressive debut at the 2023 ACAC Fall Regional in Lloydminster, SK this past weekend. White and the Kings were able to finish their first bonspiel of the season with a 4-1 record and go into the 2024 Winter Regional in first place in the men’s division. One of their four wins came against the Concordia University Thunder, who are the reigning ACAC Champions, with the Polytechnic coming out on top with a 6-3 victory on the final day of the bonspiel.

White and the Kings will now await to defend their top spot in the division at the Winter Regional which will be held from January 19-21 at the Avonair Curling Club in Edmonton
