The evacuation centre in Red Deer continues to be open at the G.H. Dawe Centre in Red Deer for evacuees from the Northwest Territories. Effective today the reception centre will be open from 8AM to 9PM. 

For Northwest Territories evacuees:

  • The Red Deer Reception Centre is OPEN and accepting evacuees. 
  • People arriving in Red Deer from the Northwest Territories are asked to register at the G.H. Dawe Community Centre (6175 67 Street).
  • The Reception Centre is open until midnight on Sunday, August 20. Effective Monday, August 21 hours are 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. 
  • If you or anyone you’re evacuating with require additional supports (meals, medical, lodging, pet care) staff are available to support at the G.H. Dawe Community Centre.
  • Evacuees will receive free transit and recreation passes. More information is available at the Reception Centre (G.H. Dawe Community Centre).

For BC residents self-evacuating to Alberta:

  • The G.H. Dawe Community Centre Evacuee Reception Centre in Red Deer is only set up for evacuees from the Northwest Territories.
  • Currently, reception centres in Alberta are not set up for BC evacuees.
  • BC evacuees in Alberta are asked to seek their own accommodation, and to contact their insurance companies.
