On Nov. 30, 2023, at 10:06 p.m., Sylvan Lake RCMP received a report of an aggravated assault near the Alliance Church on 47 Avenue in Sylvan Lake.
Upon arrival, Officer located a 41-year-old victim with serious injuries. Investigation revealed that the victim was attacked by two individuals. When a witness attempted to intervene, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at them.
The suspects left in a vehicle. Information about the vehicle was passed to neighbouring detachments. Blackfalds RCMP located the vehicle at a residence in Gasoline Alley. RCMP utilized a tire deflation device and successfully disabled the vehicle as it left. RCMP arrested both occupants. A warrant was obtained for the residence to search for additional suspects.
RCMP have charged Red Deer County resident Steven Tyler Mitchell (28), with Aggravated Assault and Robbery.
Mitchell was taken before a justice of the peace and did not speak to bail and was remanded in custody. Mitchell’s next court is set for Dec, 4, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
The second occupant of the vehicle was released without charges
The investigation continues to identify the second suspect.
