On Feb. 9, 2024, at 3:25 p.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 13 and Range Road 261.

Upon arrival, investigators observed a sedan was struck by a ½ ton pick up truck. Emergency crews tended to one of the occupants of the sedan however, he died at scene.

The deceased has been identified as a 29-year-old male resident of Maskwacis. The driver of the sedan was taken by STARS to hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger of the sedan and the driver of the pickup was taken to hospital by ambulance.

RCMP remained on scene for several hours conducting an investigation. Police have now departed and normal traffic flow has resumed.

Initial investigation indicates that the sedan was traveling on Range Road 261 and entered the Highway 13 where it was struck by the oncoming pickup. The investigation continues.
