Alberta Infrastructure will be giving updates on the Red Deer Hospital expansion project during a public information session next week.

If Budget 2024 is passed, the capital plan will allocate $810 million over three years toward a $1.8 billion investment for the redevelopment of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Schematic design on the project was recently completed, and the next step is design development and creating a construction plan, including building finishes, plumbing, and electrical components.

There are three major construction phases of the redevelopment, including the construction of a new inpatient tower, expansion and renovation of the hospital’s main building, and the construction of an ambulatory care building.

The project will also upgrade services throughout the hospital, including adding three new operating rooms, a new Medical Device Reprocessing department, and new cardiac catheterization labs.

When complete, the expansion will add up to 200 beds to the facility, bringing the total number of beds to 570.

The project is on time and budget.

Throughout the redevelopment, the Red Deer Hospital will remain operational.

The information session will be held at the Chalet, Westerner Park (4847A 19 Street, Red Deer) on March 14 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Project representatives will be available to answer questions.
