The City of Lacombe has approved of another grant to support a second Lacombe Days Concert in 2024.

Council approved a $30,000 grant from the Community Builder Partnership Fund to the Lacombe Days Committee for their proposed 2024 Lacombe Days Concert. The concert is part of the Lacombe Days festival, a three-day community celebration.

During Lacombe Days of 2023, the City hosted performances from Harlequin and Honeymoon Suite.

“Lacombe Days is our community’s signature summer event, and Council is proud to support another exciting concert at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “The Community Builder Partnership grant was updated last year to be able to support events like this. With the outstanding efforts the organizers are known for, I’m sure the Lacombe Days concert will build upon its initial success.”

The Lacombe Days Committee applied for funding support through the Community Builder Partnership Fund, which requires Council approval for any request exceeding $10,000. In 2023, Lacombe Days received $20,000 to support the event. The Committee plans to use the lessons learned from last year's concert to improve this year’s implementation and delivery, as well as to increase its sustainability and reduce its reliance on external funding in the future.

The Lacombe & District Recreation, Parks and Culture Board reviewed the Committee’s application and recommended Council approve the grant at their meeting on January 11th, 2024. The Board recognized the value of the Lacombe Days festival and the concert as a way to promote community engagement, social inclusion, and local tourism.

Lacombe Days is a largely volunteer-operated festival. Most of the events offered during the festival are free or low-cost, allowing for all community members to enjoy the festivities.
