Coming up on Wednesday, June 5th, students from H.J. Cody Highschool in Sylvan Lake will be raising funds and awareness to end gender-based and domestic violence.

They will be participating in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser. Hayden Becker, who is a Grade 11 student and President of the Interact Club talks about this year's event.

"This is our 7th year doing this at H.J. Cody. We do open it as a Community event, but it is run by the high school. We have about 15 kids in our in our at club this year who are organizing it."

Becker explains why the event is so important for high school students.

"This event is super important because it raises awareness against gender based violence. We fundraise a ton of money and it all goes right to the outreach center in Red Deer. I think it's important to do in the high school as it starts welcoming the idea to students and starting to develop the importance of it as they grow older. I do hope that it continues to grow and that each year we see more progress in the event and a lot of the students get super involved in it and passionate about raising money."
