On Nov. 24, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Red Deer RCMP responded to an apartment building for a firearms complaint, where 26-year-old Shaeleigh Jahner a resident of Red Deer, was found deceased. At 7:30 p.m., a suspect was arrested.
On Nov. 25, 2023, as a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Christopher Furgason, a resident of Red Deer, was charged with manslaughter with a firearm.
Furgason was brought before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody, with his next court date set for Dec. 1, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
